Frequently Asked Questions About Trubreez Breathalyzers
Most breathalyzers use one of three technologies to detect Blood Alcohol Content (BAC), which is the concentration of alcohol in a person’s blood: a semiconductor sensor, a fuel cell sensor or a spectrophotometer.
TrueBreez breathalyzers use either a fuel cell or ethanol-specific sensor to measure the subject’s BAC. A Fuel Cell sensor is very accurate and more senitive since it uses a chemical reaction to determine the BAC levels. A Semiconductor sensors offer many benefits, including low cost, low power consumption and small size and are perfect for personal or home testing. Semiconductor models have been proven to perform very well and provide accurate readings.
TruBreez breathalyzer measures the alcohol that passes through alveoli air sacs as blood flows through your blood vessels into the lungs, and then expelled through your breath. Breathalyzers usually do not distinguish one person from another because they are programmed to assume that people share the same traits. Because of this, inaccurate readings can result. Other factors such as environment including the presence of products such as paint, glue, and gasoline, as well as diet, can also effect breath test results.
Any person with a driver’s license who consumes alcohol, should strongly consider owning a breathalyzer. DUI’s can have serious repercussions in people’s lives including injury, jail time, loss of job and suspended license. We strongly recommend a breathalyzer for teen drivers, college students, young professionals, socially active adults and anyone with a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Many companies with jobs requiring CDL’s have a policy of automatically terminating any employee who gets a DUI.
All breathalyzers eventually need to be re-calibrated to maintain accuracy—it’s a part of keeping the device in good working order.
If your TruBreez breathalyzer is providing inconsistent test results, is not providing any test results, or provides unusually high or low test results, the product may need to be re-calibrated. We recommend that TruBreez owners experiencing these issues first go to the Troubleshooting Your TruBreez section located on the FAQ page and try the suggestions provided. If the device continues to provide inconsistent test results, we recommend having it re-calibrated. If your TruBreez is under warranty contact Customer Service or visit the Calibration page to get instructions on how to proceed.
Using Your TruBreez 2020 Breathalyzer
Breathalzyer Operating Instructions
Wait 20 minutes after the subject smokes, eats or drinks before testing. Failure to wait 20 minutes can give inaccurate BAC readings and harm the sensor.
Step 1: Insert a mouthpiece into the mouthpiece opening.
Step 2: Press the Power/Mode Selector button. You will here a beep sound and the unit will start to count down from 15 on the DISPLAY and say “Warm up”. This warm-up process prepares the sensor.
Step 3: When the countdown approaches 2, begin to inhale a deep breath.
Step 4: When the countdown reaches zero, you will hear a second beep indicating that you should blow into in to the mouthpiece. Blow through the mouthpiece until you hear a beep. This may happen at any point during the to ten second countdown.
Step 5: Once the sensor has analyzed the breath sample, the estimated BAC value is displayed.
To get an accurate reading, it is very important that you wait 20 minutes after eating, drinking or smoking before using your TruBreez breathalyzer. There are two primary reasons for this. First, people metabolize alcohol at different rates. Waiting 20 minutes gives the body time to absorb the alcohol and give a more accurate reading.
The second reason is to make sure that your mouth is clear of any alcohol that no food particles will accidentally be blown into the breathalyzer and cause damage.
Troubleshooting Your TruBreez 2020 Breathalyzer
- This may happen when you use the breathalyzer too soon after drinking, eating or smoking. Please wait at least 20 minutes after drinking, eating or smoking and try again.
- Check to make sure that the battery indicator light is not blinking. The device will not read properly when the batteries are too low.
- Since the TruBreez is testing for alcohol on your breath we suggest this simple tip: remove the mouthpiece and wave the device back and forth to get clean air to pass through the mouthpiece holes. Place the mouthpiece back into the mouthpiece hole and try again.
This is a safety feature that happens when the device senses the presence of residual alcohol during warm-up. In most cases, you can fix this by removing the mouthpiece from the device and waving it back and forth to get clean air to pass through the mouthpiece holes. Please note that it may repeat the countdown several times.
This happens because TruBreez can display your blood alochol level using one of has 3 methods: BAC, MG/L, and Promille. The default setting for the TruBreez is %BAC and this is the common measurement used throughout most of North America. We also support other standards and allow you to choose the display results that best meet your needs.
- To change the display mode for your results, just press the Power/Mode Selector button while your results are displayed.
- NOTE: You can only toggle between the results during the 10 second time frame when your results are displayed. The device will always show results in the last display mode used during the previous use.
Troubleshooting Your TruBreez Premier Breathalyzer
The TruBreez Premier™ Breathalyzer uses a fuel cell sensor. Breathalyzers that use a fuel cell offer extremely high accuracy and sensitivity. This is the same technology used by substance abuse centers, clinics, roadside alcohol testing and business. In recent years, prices have become much more affordable for personal fuel cell deceives making them increasingly popular for personal use.
Fuel cell sensors rely on an electrochemical process that oxidizes the alcohol in a breath sample. The oxidization produces an electrical current that the breathalyzer measures to determine the Blood Alcohol Content (BAC). The strength of the current corresponds to the volume of alcohol present in the sample.
The clicking sensation you hear is actually the pump collecting the breath sample. This indicates that the unit is analyzing the sample.
Yes. The TruBreez Premier will automatically save the last 5 breath samples. Simply press the “Memory” button to view them. It is that easy.
To start the TruBreez Premier, simply press “Test” to power on the device. It is that easy to use.
